floral shorts

My outfit details: BLACK LONG SLEEVE: Old Navy // SHORTS: thrifted, similar pattern here // BAG: ModCloth // SHOES: Target old, very here similar // NECKLACE: BaubleBar // WATCH: Fossil  // BRACELETS: Alex and Ani , Charming Charlie, Tiffany and Co.  // EARRINGS: Betsey Johnson (long version) // SUNNIES: Tiffany & Co.  // NAILS: Essie  (color: Snap Happy)

Floral patterns for spring? Wow, shocker! (Please note the heavy sarcasm...) But in all seriousness, I believe that a good pair of floral shorts can take any girl a long way. When it comes to floral patterns, I love creating pops of color by focusing on one of the colors in the pattern and adding accents that match. In this outfit, I focused on the red in my shorts and really made the look pop by pairing it with a bold red bag and bright red nails. And you can always throw in a sparkly flower necklace for good measure ;)

Have a lovely Monday!

kickin' it in a kimono

My outfit details: DRESS: Old Navy (can't stop wearing this) // KIMONO: Francesca's old, loving this and this one // PURSE: Forever 21 // SHOES: Urban Outfitters old, similar here //  NECKLACE: Charming Charlie old, similar here //  SMALL CROSS NECKLACE: Dogeared // EARRINGS: Kendra Scott // SUNNIES: Tiffany and Co. // NAILS: Essie

I am having so much fun styling some of my favorite spring pieces! I am loving this kimono that I got a couple months ago at Francesca's, one of my favorite stores to look for bright and colorful clothes. And if you couldn't already tell based on a handful of my past blog posts, I have this black dress on major repeat. It's so hard not to wear it over and over again when it is so easy to dress down or dress up. Plus, it is probably one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing that I own! So why fix what isn't broken? ;)

Thanks for stopping by!

Jordan

P.S. I would love to give a lovely shout out to my photographer, aka my boyfriend, Bradford. Thank you for always being a trooper and helping me take blog photos. :)

flower garden

My outfit details: SHIRT: Target, not online, loving this // SHORTS: old, similar here // BAG: Forever 21 // SMALL CROSS NECKLACE: Dogeared // SHOES: Old Navy old, very similar (and cuter) here! // BRACELETS: Alex and Ani, Charming Charlie, Made in Mechanicsville (c/o), Starletta Designs (c/o) // SUNNIES: Tiffany and Co. // NAILS: Sally Hansen (color: Popin' Paprika)

I've been loving the warm weather that we have been having! I am finally able to pull out my favorite shorts from last season and wear them with some of my newly purchased shirts. I am loving this floral one that I found on sale at Target. I am not able to find it online, but I can guarantee that you could find it in the store! (P.S. It's on sale for less than $10!)

Also, if you haven't already noticed, I have fallen in love with the Dutch braid! I think it is such a fun and unique way to transition your hair into a spring and summer style. Plus you get to look like Rapunzel. And who doesn't want to look like Rapunzel?!

Thanks for stopping by!

black dress with a pop of cheetah

My outfit details: DRESS: Old Navy // SHOES: Steve Madden old, similar here, and loving these super cute leopard shoes // NECKLACE: BaubleBar (my favorite!) // SMALL CROSS NECKLACE: Dogeared // EARRINGS: Kendra Scott // BRACELETS: Tiffany & Co.Made in Mechanicsville c/o, Starletta Designs c/o, Alex and Ani // LIPS: Wet N' Wild

I love the versatility that some articles of clothing provide, like this black dress. I don't know if you guys remember, but I styled the same dress here a couple weeks back. It is such a simple (but super cute) dress that I know I will be able to style it a million different ways in the future. It is so important to buy pieces that you know you will be able to wear with unique pieces, like these leopard and red shoes. Because let's be honest, finding something to match those is not an easy task... If you find a simple piece that you can re-style a billion ways, don't hesitate to buy it! Pieces like that are rare to find. I also want to apologize for how often I wear this necklace. But I think it's too darn cute to stay locked up in my jewelry organizer...

My school's formal is this Saturday (Yes, my college has formals, awesome right!?) and I am wearing these extremely tall, chunky, almost-too-tall-to-walk-in, heels. Last time I tried to wear these shoes was for my birthday dinner back in December. I chickened out and went for a pair of easier-to-walk-in black wedged shoes. But not this time! I am determined to rock these! Now I'm sending out a dare to you over the internet (you, yes YOU!) I am daring/challenging you to wear anything that you have sitting in your closet that you love, but have been to scared to wear in public. This is your time. You can do it! I believe in you :)

Thanks for stopping by! And I hope that you know how much I appreciate you.

orange chic

My outfit details: DRESS (worn under sweater): Old Navy (they are sold out of my color, but they have 4 other cute options!) // SWEATER: AMERICAN EAGLE old, even cuter and similar one here // PURSE: FOREVER 21 // SHOES: Nine West last season, loving this seasons // LARGER NECKLACE: Forever 21, old // DELICATE CROSS NECKLACE: Dogeared (I wear this everyday!) // BRACELET: Charming Charlie, sold out, similar here // LIPS: Wet N' Wild (color: Sugarplum) only $2 and works wonderful!

Today I am happy to bring you an outfit look that I wore for Easter Sunday. At my church, I always find myself getting super cold during the services. Knowing that coldness was apart of the equation, I opted to wear a sweater over my bright dress in order to avoid becoming an icicle. I think that this is a great trick to help the clothing transition into spring! If you're bummed that you can't wear your super cute spring dress due to coldness, have no fear! Just throw on a cute winter sweater over it and you will be good to go ;)

I have only three weeks of school left and I am freaking out! I can't wait until it is summer and I can focus a lot of my energy on The Teacup of Style! After this summer is over I will only have one more year of college left (Wowza!) Can life slow down, please?

my top three thrifting tips

Outfit Details: TANK TOP: Target // BLUE LONG SLEEVE TOP: thrifted, similar here // SHORTS: thrifted, similar here // SHOES: Toms // NECKLACE: Kendra Scott // EARRINGS: Made in Mechanicsville (c/o) // SUNNIES: Tiffany and Co. (My newfound favorite!)

Ever since I started college, (3 years ago now...) I've begun to realize that I gravitate more to buying a lot of my clothes at thrift stores. When student loans are beginning to pile as high as next weeks homework list, you make some necessary sacrifices and changes. Therefore, thrifting has provided me with the opportunity to continue shopping (because I love it!) and not spend as much money. If you have never been to a thrift store before, I dare you to find the nearest one and go now! They are so much fun, and I guarantee you will find many hidden gems.

Here are my top three tips and tricks that I have learned from my thrifting experiences thus far....

1. Give yourself enough time!
Whenever I go to a thrift store, I make sure to give myself at least 1-2 hours. The racks in thrift stores are usually stuffed to the brim with clothes. It takes a while to scan through the racks, and it is not something that you want to rush. You don't want to bypass a super cute dress just because you were rapidly rushing through the clothes.

2. Be prepared to try a lot of things on!
Whenever I go to a thrift store I usually try on about 30 things (I know, hear me out though!) That is usually how many gems you will find if you give yourself enough time to look. Obviously, I do not walk out with 30 items and definitely have to narrow down my picks...But you want to walk out of that store feeling confident that you found what you were looking for.

3.  Search the piece of clothing multiple times for any holes, stains, etc.!
Even though this isn't usually a huge problem because many stores have their employees look for any discrepancy's, it still becomes a problem sometimes because it would be next to impossible for them to find every single stain or hole on every item of clothing that comes into their store. Therefore, give the article of clothing a quick scan, checking all the zippers, making sure the seams are not coming apart, etc. You'll thank yourself later! There is nothing more heartbreaking then discovering the cutest dress, buying it, taking it home, and then realizing later that it has a huge gapping hole in it. (If you couldn't tell...I'm still bitter from personal experience...)

Thanks for reading! And I encourage you to go have some fun on a thrifting adventure!

Currently Craving: Spring Time Colors

Minty blue, fluorescent pink.... I have been craving anything that is a spring time color. I mean, how could I not? They're all just too pretty to ignore! Here are some of the items that I have recently been eyeing.

Have a lovely monday!

black & blue

Outfit Details: DRESS: Old Navy (I'm wearing an XS) // SANDALS: Urban Outfitters old, very similar here // NECKLACE: Charming Charlie not online, this one would look really cute //  BRACELETS: Alex and Ani (Initial) & Starletta Designs (c/o) // SUNNIES: Tiffany and Co. // PURSE: Forever 21 (surprisingly fits a lot!) // NAILS: Deborah Lippmann (color: Flash Dance) // LIPS: Dior Addict Lip Gloss (color: Diablotine)

Please, for the love of all things, ignore my incredibly horrendous sock tan. It is just something that I have learned to deal with. When you spend hours up hours wearing running shoes as a track athlete, awkward tan lines just come along with the territory. Now that I have gotten that out of the way...by now you have probably realized that I wear a lot (and I mean a lot) of black. I remember every single dress that I bought for a school dance back in high school was black. Opps...
We all have a comfort zone. For some people, it's there favorite pair of sneakers, a pair of jeans, or something cheetah print. And quite frankly, sometimes it just feels so darn good to venture back into your comfort zone. This dress is my comfort zone. It is black, comfortable, and not too short. I feel my best when I am comfortable and content with my outfit, and this look definitely falls into that category. What are some of your go to pieces that you feel most comfortable in?

Thanks for stopping by!

Jordan
